A 1,500-Year Lineage: From the Fame of Baekje Ginseng to the Brand of Geumsan

E.C. Lee / SIMTEA.com

'Baekje Ginseng' (百濟蔘), Forgotten Reputation and Modern Resurrection

Generally, 'Ginseng' is perceived as synonymous with the term 'Goryeo Ginseng' (高麗人蔘).1From the Goryeo Dynasty through Joseon to the modern era, Goryeo Ginseng has established itself as an unrivaled brand with international renown.22

However, this conventional wisdom reflects only half of the historical facts. In the history of ginseng, prior to 'Goryeo', there existed a powerful brand called 'Baekje Ginseng' (百濟人蔘), which was recognized as the finest luxury good in ancient East Asia.3

Chinese medical texts and official histories from the 6th century evaluate Baekje ginseng as qualitatively superior to the ginseng of Goguryeo at the time, recording that it was "considered the best."4This suggests that 'Baekje Ginseng' was not merely a medicinal herb, but a strategic asset holding core value in the international relations and trade of East Asia at that time.5

The question is how the fame of 'Baekje Ginseng', which was once unrivaled, was severed during the long spatiotemporal gap of 1,500 years, and how it is being resurrected in modern times as a specific regional brand called 'Geumsan (錦山) Ginseng'.6

The purpose of this report is clear. First, it verifies the historical reality and unrivaled status of 'Baekje Ginseng' found in ancient literature.7

Second, it provides an in-depth analysis of how Geumsan County in Chungnam today transcends 1,500 years of time to excavate, reinterpret, and strategically 'connect' this ancient narrative, thereby inheriting it as a unique cultural and commercial asset.8

This is an analysis of how 'History' is reconstructed into 'Heritage', and an effort to clarify the mechanism of 'narrative connection' through which ancient fame gives birth to a modern brand.9

Part 1: The Unrivaled Status of 'Baekje Ginseng' Proven by Ancient Literature

The brand 'Baekje Ginseng' was not created by modern marketing, but is a historical reality proven by East Asian records from 1,500 years ago.10Ancient texts clearly testify that Baekje ginseng was not just a local specialty, but a top-tier trade item and strategic asset at the center of diplomacy and economy.11

1.1. A Strategic Asset of 6th Century East Asia: King Muryeong's Ginseng Diplomacy

The status of Baekje ginseng is most clearly revealed in diplomatic records with the Chinese imperial court, the highest power group of the time.12

The Book of Liang (梁書), the official history of the Liang Dynasty in 6th-century China, records that King Muryeong (reigned 501–523), the 25th king of Baekje, sent ginseng as a tribute to Emperor Wu of Liang.13Other documents such as Mingyi Bielu (명의별록) specify this timing more concretely as 513 (the 12th year of King Muryeong).14

This shows that ginseng was beyond a simple medicinal herb; it was a key medium for diplomatic negotiations on which the fate of the nation depended.15

From ancient times, ginseng was utilized as a means to overcome national crises.16As seen in records where Silla sent 200 catties (geun) of ginseng when negotiating an alliance with the Tang Dynasty (Silla-Tang Alliance) later (662)17, or when Joseon sent 500–600 catties of ginseng annually to stabilize early relations with the Ming Dynasty (1392–1453)18, ginseng was a precious resource capable of changing the landscape of diplomacy.

King Muryeong's 'Ginseng Diplomacy'19is one of the earliest archetypes of such diplomatic utilization.2020

At that time, Baekje was in a period of trying to rebuild the nation through diplomacy with the Southern Dynasties of China after losing Hanseong to Goguryeo's southward advance and moving the capital to Ungjin (current Gongju) to settle a national crisis (475).2121

At this juncture, ginseng was the ultimate 'strategic gift' that symbolized Baekje's high cultural level and national power while simultaneously winning the favor of the Liang imperial court.22

Some historical sources estimate the trade volume at the time to have reached "several hundred catties"23, suggesting the possibility that a state-level organized supply chain existed beyond simple wild ginseng gathering.24

1.2. Quality Competitiveness: "Baekje's is the Best" - Analysis of Bencao Jing Jizhu

The value of Baekje ginseng did not stop at mere scarcity. In the objective quality evaluation of contemporaries 1,500 years ago, Baekje ginseng was recognized as a 'supreme masterpiece' overwhelming its competitor, Goguryeo ginseng.25

This decisive evidence is recorded in the medical text Bencao Jing Jizhu (本草經集注)26and Mingyi Bielu (名醫別錄)27, authored by Tao Hongjing (456–536), a medical scholar of the Liang Dynasty and a contemporary of King Muryeong.

Bencao Jing Jizhu clearly compares and evaluates the quality of East Asian ginseng at the time as follows:

"Ginseng from Baekje is considered important (爲重). The shape is thin but hard and white (細而堅白), and the energy and taste are milder than (Chinese) Shangdang ginseng (上黨蔘). Next, Goryeo (Goguryeo) ginseng is used, and Goryeo is essentially Liaodong. The shape is large but the inside is loose and soft (大而虛軟), making it inferior to Baekje's."28

This record concretely demonstrates the unrivaled quality superiority of Baekje ginseng. While Goguryeo ginseng was 'large in size but loose inside (大而虛軟)', Baekje ginseng possessed a high-density quality described as 'thin but hard and white (細而堅白)'.29

Silla ginseng (Rasams) was also delivered as a tribute to Tang.36

In this comparison, the expression 'Gyeonbaek (堅白, hard and white)'38strongly suggests that beyond simple physical description, Baekje possessed 'processing technology' superior to competitor nations.39

The characteristic of Goguryeo ginseng being 'large and loose' is close to unprocessed 'Fresh Ginseng (Susam)'. Conversely, the characteristic of Baekje ginseng being 'hard and white' brings to mind the early form of 'White Ginseng (Baeksam)' or 'Curved Ginseng (Goksam)'40, where the skin is peeled41 and dried to prevent moisture and rot.

For long-distance trade to China42, prevention of spoilage was essential. In other words, the fame of 'Baekje Ginseng' was the result of combining excellent raw materials (Terroir) with 'technological superiority (Technology)' in processing that enhanced long-term preservation and marketability.43

This implies that 1,500 years ago, Baekje had already succeeded in 'brand differentiation' and 'value-added creation'.44

Part 2: Geumsan (錦山) Claims the Legitimacy of 'Baekje Ginseng'

The historical fame of 'Baekje Ginseng' verified in Part 1 is being resurrected in a specific region called Geumsan, Chungcheongnam-do, 1,500 years later.45

How does Geumsan leap over a gap of 15 centuries to claim itself as the legitimate successor of 'Baekje Ginseng'?46The basis consists of two axes: the geopolitical connection of 'Territory' and the narrative connection of 'Legend'.47

2.1. Proof of Territory: Was Geumsan Baekje Land? (Geographic Link)

The first gateway for modern Geumsan County to inherit the narrative of ancient 'Baekje Ginseng' is 'territorial legitimacy'.48Was the current Geumsan area truly Baekje territory during the Three Kingdoms period?49

Historical geographical verification provides a clear answer. The current Geumsan County area was distinctly Baekje territory during the Three Kingdoms period.50In ancient place names, the Geumsan area was called 'Jin-ing-eul-gun' (進仍乙郡)51or 'Jinnae-gun' (進乃郡).52

This region was a core Baekje territory defending the eastern side of the metropolitan area during the Ungjin and Sabi periods (475–660) when Baekje moved its capital from Hanseong to Ungjin (Gongju)53and Sabi (Buyeo).54Some records raise the possibility that Geumsan was a strategic key point belonging to the 'East Province (Dongbang)'55 among Baekje's 5 provinces.

However, Geumsan's choice of the 'Baekje' identity is not merely a historical inevitability but also a result of modern 'strategic choice'.5656

Geumsan's complex history of administrative changes demonstrates this well. After the fall of Baekje, Geumsan was under the jurisdiction of 'Jeolla-do' for most of the Unified Silla, Goryeo, and Joseon dynasties.57Following the implementation of the 23-fu system in 1895 (32nd year of King Gojong), it was briefly incorporated into 'Gongju-fu'58, but with the implementation of the 13-do system the following year (1896), it belonged to 'Jeollabuk-do' again.59

It was comparatively recent, during the administrative reorganization on January 1, 196360, that Geumsan was incorporated into the current 'Chungcheongnam-do'.

In other words, instead of the identity of 'Jeolla-do' which lasted for hundreds of years, Geumsan chose the identity of 'Chungcheong-do' incorporated in 1963.61And in that process, they powerfully summoned history older than the Joseon Dynasty (Jeolla-do)—specifically the Three Kingdoms period, or 'Baekje' (the core identity of Chungcheong-do)—as their origin narrative.62This is interpreted as a result strongly influenced by modern policy and cultural considerations to maximize regional identity in conjunction with the 'Baekje Cultural Sphere' development discourse pushed by Chungcheongnam-do.63636363

2.2. Origin of 1,500 Years of History: The Narrative Function of the 'Gang Cheosa' Legend (Mythological Link)

If Geumsan secured the physical space of 'Baekje Territory', the next task was filling the massive void of 1,500 years.64

The device that perfectly seals this narrative gap is the origin legend of Geumsan ginseng, the 'Gang Cheosa (Scholar Gang) Legend'.65This legend is the concrete basis for Geumsan ginseng proudly declaring it has "1,500 years of history."66666666

The content of the legend is perfectly structured for Geumsan ginseng's branding strategy.67

  • Temporal Setting: The legend clearly sets the timing as "about 1,500 years ago during the Baekje era."68This precisely aligns chronologically with King Muryeong's ginseng diplomacy (early 6th century)69and the records of Bencao Jing Jizhu70verified in Part 1.71

  • Spatial Setting: The stage is Gwaneumgul Cave on Jinaksan Mountain, the guardian mountain (Jinsan) of Geumsan.7272

  • Narrative Content: A filial scholar named 'Gang Cheosa' offers prayers for 100 days at Gwaneumgul Cave in Jinaksan for the recovery of his sick widowed mother.73Touched by his filial piety, the mountain spirit appears in a dream and reveals, "Go to the rock face of Gwaneumbong Peak and there is a plant with three red berries (a plant with five leaves on three branches)."74 He is told to decoct the root for his mother.

  • Result: When Gang Cheosa found it and gave it to his mother, her illness was completely cured. Afterward, he planted the seeds in a field at "Gaean-i Village, Seonggok-ri, Nami-myeon"75and began cultivating them.76This is said to be the beginning of Geumsan ginseng cultivation.77

  • Physical Evidence: Geumsan County specified 'Gaesamteo' (Site where ginseng began)78as the site of this legend and built a memorial building called 'Gaesamgak'79to fix the legend into a physical reality.80

The 'Gang Cheosa Legend' holds multi-layered implications as a sophisticated 'Narrative Technology' bridging the 1,500-year gap:81

First, the setting of '1,500 years ago in the Baekje era'82seals the 'historical fact' (literature records) of Part 1 and the 'geographical fact' (Baekje territory) of Part 2.1 with the powerful adhesive of 'myth'.83This grants historical and temporal legitimacy to Geumsan's claim as the legitimate successor of 'Baekje Ginseng'.84

Second, it cleverly connects the gap between ancient ginseng (wild, gathering-centered) and modern ginseng (cultivated, farming-centered).85Gang Cheosa received wild ginseng from the mountain spirit, but is described as having planted (cultivated) the seeds.86Through this, Geumsan secures two legitimacies simultaneously: the status as a 'sacred place of wild ginseng' and the 'origin of ginseng cultivation'.87878787

Third, it combines the universal value of 'Filial Piety (Hyo)'88 with the origin of ginseng. This is a core device giving Geumsan ginseng a powerful and positive emotional brand image of 'life', 'devotion', and 'health'.89

Fourth, by specifying concrete locations like 'Jinaksan' and 'Seonggok-ri, Nami-myeon'90, it creates a sacred place called 'Gaesamteo'9191, establishing a foundation to utilize it as a tourism resource and space for rituals.92

Part 3: Modern Succession (1): Geumsan World Ginseng Festival and Cultural Reenactment

The ancient narrative of 'Baekje Ginseng' does not remain merely as a record stuffed in Geumsan. Through the massive cultural event called the Geumsan World Ginseng Festival, the worldview of the 'Gang Cheosa Legend' is reenacted annually in modern times and imprinted on visitors in the form of an 'experience'.93

3.1. From Ritual to Festival: Modern Variation of 'Samjangje'

The Geumsan Ginseng Festival began in 1981 under the name 'Geumsan Ginseng Festival' and grew into a nationwide festival after being selected as a Cultural Tourism Festival in 1996.94However, the roots of this modern festival reach back to the local community's indigenous ritual, which is not a simple commercial event but inherits the worldview of the 'Gang Cheosa Legend'.95

The matrix of the festival is a traditional ritual called 'Samjangje' (Ginseng Spirit Ritual).96Samjangje is a rite to thank the 'Mountain Spirit' (the very spirit appearing in the Gang Cheosa legend) who enabled ginseng cultivation97and to pray for an abundant ginseng harvest.98

This link is crucial in Geumsan's narrative strategy. The 'Gang Cheosa Legend' (Myth) is a myth dealing with a contract between the Mountain Spirit (God) and Gang Cheosa (Human).99'Samjangje' (Ritual) is a community rite that renews this contract annually and expresses gratitude.100And the 'Geumsan Ginseng Festival' (Festival) is a massive cultural industry that exhibits and provides an experience of this sacred ritual to national and global tourists (consumers).101

Through this perfect continuity of 'Myth → Ritual → Festival', the myth of the Baekje era 1,500 years ago is constantly reproduced through the 'living ritual' of today's festival, strengthening its legitimacy.102

3.2. Implementation of Narrative: Imprinting 'Baekje' and 'Gang Cheosa' through Festival Content

The Geumsan Ginseng Festival is full of concrete devices to imprint the core narrative of '1,500-year Baekje Ginseng' upon visitors.103The festival utilizes the 'Gang Cheosa Legend' as the central axis of storytelling, implementing it into various programs.104

Most symbolic is the fact that a person playing the role of 'Gang Cheosa' actually exists during the festival period.105He wears 'Baekje costumes' and officiates official festival events such as the 'Gang Cheosa Ritual'.106This plays a role in visually and symbolically injecting the equation "Geumsan Ginseng = Gang Cheosa = Baekje" into festival visitors.107

Furthermore, the 'Gang Cheosa Legend' was used as the core story motif for a 4D stereoscopic video ('Sim: Root of Life, Searching for Sim') at the 2011 Geumsan World Ginseng Expo.108By combining mythical narrative with modern technology to provide a touching experience to visitors, it succeeded in emotionally conveying the narrative of 'Baekje Ginseng'.109

Thus, since being selected as a Cultural Tourism Festival in 1996110, the festival functions not only to produce economic achievements of 910,000 tourists and 70 billion KRW in regional income111, but as the most powerful cultural loudspeaker and field of narrative practice spreading Geumsan's identity of '1,500-year Baekje Ginseng'.112

Part 4: Modern Succession (2): 'Geumhong' Brand and Industrialization Strategy

If Geumsan had stopped at reenacting the legitimacy of 'Baekje Ginseng' as a cultural festival, the narrative would not have crossed the walls of a local festival.113Geumsan's strategy lies in concentrating the 1,500-year historical narrative into a single commercial brand called 'Geumhong' (Geumhong), thereby creating clear economic value.114

4.1. Commercial Branding Continuing the 'Lineage of Baekje Ginseng'

'Geumhong' is a joint brand for Geumsan ginseng and herbal medicine directly certified for quality by the Geumsan County Governor.115The identity of the Geumhong brand has sophisticatedly translated the historical narrative of 1,500 years into commercial language.116

Geumhong clearly declares itself as the "Representative brand of Geumsan ginseng continuing the lineage of Baekje Ginseng."117Simultaneously, it emphasizes that the products are produced in "Geumsan, the Republic of Korea, the suzerain of Goryeo Ginseng."118

This is a sophisticated Dual-Brand Strategy utilizing two powerful historical brands, 'Baekje' and 'Goryeo', simultaneously.119

The slogan 'Lineage of Baekje Ginseng'120signifies the historical legitimacy and differentiation of 'highest quality'121verified in Part 1.122On the other hand, the expression 'Suzerain of Goryeo Ginseng'123is a strategy to piggyback on the high recognition of 'Goryeo Ginseng (Koreansam)'124which is already widely known internationally.125

In other words, Geumhong employs a positioning that elevates the product's class by basing it on the reliability of 'Goryeo Ginseng' familiar to domestic and foreign consumers, while adding a differentiated historical storytelling that "among them, we have continued the lineage of 'Baekje', which was superior to Goguryeo ginseng 1,500 years ago."126126126

4.2. Modern Quality Systems Supporting Historicity

Even a powerful narrative of 'Baekje' and '1,500 years of history' would remain an empty marketing slogan if modern quality were not supported.127The reliability of Geumsan ginseng relies not only on historical fame but is guaranteed through scientific and systematic modern quality control systems.128

The most symbolic achievement is that Geumsan's traditional ginseng agriculture system was officially listed as a 'Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS)' by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2018.129This is a decisive event where the originality and historicity of the '1,500-year history'130and traditional cultivation methods131claimed by Geumsan were officially recognized by an international organization.132

The GIAHS listing elevated Geumsan's 'Gang Cheosa Legend'133from a simple 'myth' to the status of 'Heritage' recognized by the world, serving as a powerful basis for trust among domestic and foreign consumers.134

Furthermore, the 'Geumhong' brand is granted only to products that pass strict modern standards in addition to this historical value.135This includes multiple certification systems for food safety and quality such as Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)136, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for health functional foods, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).137137137

Thus, Geumsan, as the de facto capital of the Korean ginseng industry where 70–80% of the nation's ginseng distribution volume138138and about 75% of ginseng manufacturing companies139139are concentrated, has succeeded in combining the historical narrative of 'Baekje' with modern quality systems like 'GIAHS' and 'GAP'.140

4.3. Expansion into 'Baekje Wellness' Ecosystem

Geumsan's branding strategy does not stop at selling the ingredient called ginseng but succeeds in expanding the values of 'health' and 'nature' symbolized by 'ginseng' into a lifestyle brand.141

As representative examples, 'Ginseng Rice', where milled rice is coated with ginseng powder, and 'Hair Loss Prevention Shampoo' developed by Doori Cosmetics located in Geumsan using ginseng as a raw material142, have established themselves as other specialties of Geumsan.143

An official from Doori Cosmetics stated, "We built the factory in Geumsan because herbal medicines and ginseng were easy to obtain," and "Using the brand image of 'Geumsan, the home of ginseng' in marketing has been very effective."144This shows that the raw material brand of 'Geumsan Ginseng' is creating a powerful synergy effect in the downstream industry (manufacturing).145

Furthermore, Geumsan County connects the 'healthiness' and 'naturalness' symbolized by ginseng to projects like 'Creating 1,000 Nature Parks'.146146146This is a long-term strategy to expand Geumsan's image from 'Ginseng' to a 'Wellness Hub' defined as a 'healthy local government where natural ecology is alive'.147147147

Part 5: Competing Narratives: Origin of Cultivation and Legacy of the Old Capital

While Geumsan is successfully establishing the legitimacy of 'Baekje Ginseng', the narrative surrounding the origin of ginseng is not completed by Geumsan's story alone.148Another region (Hwasun) exists claiming the beginning of ginseng cultivation, and another capital that was the heart of Baekje (Buyeo) also possesses a strong ginseng industrial base.149

5.1. Where Did Cultivation Begin: The Theory of Hwasun (Dongbok) as the First Cultivation Site

Geumsan's 'Gang Cheosa Legend' claims the mythical origin of 'cultivation' (1,500 years ago, Baekje) through 'Gaesamteo' (Site where ginseng began).150150150150 However, powerful literary grounds exist that directly challenge this.

Numerous documents, including Hongsamji (Red Ginseng Record) compiled by Kim Taek-young in the early 20th century151, Jeungbo Munheon Bigo (Augmented Reference on Documents) compiled in 1770 (46th year of King Yeongjo)152, and Junggyeongji, a geography book of Kaesong153, record the beginning of 'Gasam' (Home Ginseng), i.e., ginseng 'cultivation', differently.154

According to these documents, ginseng cultivation began when the "daughter-in-law of Kim Jinsa" living in Dongbok-hyeon, Jeolla-do (current Dongbok-myeon, Hwasun-gun, Jeonnam) during the reign of King Sukjong of Joseon (reigned 1674–1720)155obtained wild ginseng seeds and planted them in a field, spreading this to a "person with the surname Choi," marking the start of full-scale 'Gasam' cultivation.156In particular, these documents specifically describe that the cultivation technique (seed ginseng method) originating in Dongbok-hyeon was spread to people in 'Kaesong'.157

Based on these records, Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do, claims to be the 'First Cultivation Site of Goryeo Ginseng'158, which conflicts in part with Geumsan's narrative.159

These two narratives seem to compete, but their natures are different. Geumsan's 'Gang Cheosa Legend'160claims a 'symbolic' and 'mythical' first cultivation site ('Gaesamteo') from the Baekje era (1,500 years ago).161Conversely, Hwasun's 'Daughter-in-law of the Kim Family Theory'162claims a 'technical' and 'documentary' first cultivation site (spread of 'Gasam' cultivation method) from the Joseon era (about 300 years ago).163

Geumsan can be seen as inheriting the reputation of 'Baekje Ginseng', while Hwasun inherits the technology of 'Gasam'.164However, Geumsan attempts to preempt even the mythical origin of 'cultivation' through the narrative that 'Gang Cheosa planted the seeds'165, showing one aspect of the modern 'narrative war' over the honorable title of 'Suzerain of Goryeo Ginseng'.166

5.2. Another Capital of Baekje: The Silence of Buyeo (扶餘)

When discussing the narrative of 'Baekje Ginseng', it is necessary to pay attention to Sabi, the last capital of Baekje—present-day Buyeo167—rather than Geumsan.168

Buyeo was the heart of Baekje culture and possesses a powerful ginseng industrial infrastructure even in modern times.169Buyeo was renowned as one of the nation's top 5 ginseng production areas in the past170and holds a strong regional joint brand called 'Goodtrae'.171Above all, the Buyeo Factory of KGC Ginseng Corporation (CheongKwanJang), the largest red ginseng manufacturing factory in Korea, is located here.172

Nevertheless, Buyeo does not push the narrative of 'Baekje Ginseng' to the forefront as much as Geumsan does.173Buyeo's core festival is the 'Baekje Cultural Festival', and its theme focuses on the history and culture of the 'Royal Capital', such as 'Beautiful Baekje, Shining Sabi'.174174174In this festival, ginseng is merely one of several 'regional specialties' mentioned alongside Gongju or Geumsan175, and is not utilized as the central narrative of the festival.176

This is interpreted as a matter of 'selection and concentration of brand assets'.177 Buyeo possesses overwhelming core assets incomparable to anything else, namely 'Baekje Royal Capital' (Jeongnimsa Temple Site, Baengmagang River, Ancient Tombs, etc.). Therefore, to Buyeo, which symbolizes the grand discourse of 'Baekje's politics, culture, and religion'178, 'ginseng' is just one of many sub-assets.179

On the other hand, Geumsan was 'Jin-ing-eul-gun'180 during the Baekje era, a periphery rather than the capital. While Buyeo tries to symbolize 'everything about Baekje', Geumsan concentrated all the region's narratives on the single asset of 'Baekje Ginseng'.181

Geumsan successfully penetrated this 'Branding Void' left by Buyeo. Particularly through strong local storytelling like the 'Gang Cheosa Legend'182, it established a paradoxical foundation to claim the legitimacy of 'Baekje Ginseng' more powerfully than Buyeo, the former 'Capital of Baekje'.183

Modern Value and Future Strategy of the 'Baekje Ginseng' Narrative

This report analyzed how the fame of 'Baekje Ginseng' is being resurrected in modern Geumsan, transcending 1,500 years of space and time. The conclusion is clear.184

'Baekje Ginseng' started from a historical fact (Quality) proven by 6th-century Chinese official history (Book of Liang)185and medical texts (Bencao Jing Jizhu)186. It met the charming mythical narrative (Story) of the 'Gang Cheosa Legend'187in the geopolitical space (Place) of Geumsan1881,500 years later, to be reborn as a powerful 'Cultural Brand'.189

Geumsan's success is the result of these three elements—historical quality, narrative legitimacy, and geopolitical relevance—being organically combined rather than separated.190

  • Historical Evidence (Quality): As seen in Part 1, 'Baekje Ginseng' is based on the objective evaluation of the 6th century that it was superior to 'Goryeo Ginseng'.191191191

  • Mythical Connection (Story): The 'Gang Cheosa Legend'192analyzed in Part 2 perfectly connected this historical fact with the time of '1,500 years ago in Baekje', the space of 'Geumsan Jinaksan', and the emotion of 'Filial Piety'.193

  • Cultural Practice (Festival): The 'Samjangje'194and 'Geumsan Ginseng Festival'195in Part 3 made the narrative a living culture by reenacting and allowing people to experience this myth every year.196

  • Industrial Completion (Brand): The 'Geumhong' brand197and GIAHS/GAP certifications198in Part 4 converted this cultural asset into trustworthy commercial value.199

Now that global interest in 'K-Food' is heightening200200, the narrative of 'Baekje Ginseng' is a very powerful differentiation factor.201

Future strategies for Geumsan ginseng should proceed in the following directions:202

First, it should refrain from being a sub-brand of 'Goryeo Ginseng' and refine the historical narrative that it was a 'masterpiece superior to Goryeo (Goguryeo) ginseng' as proven by 6th-century literature203, tailored for the global market.204204204204

Second, instead of excluding competing narratives like the 'Hwasun First Cultivation Theory'205analyzed in Part 5, it should establish an integrated historical view encompassing 'Baekje Ginseng (Reputation)' and 'Joseon Ginseng (Cultivation Technology)' to position Geumsan as the 'Suzerain of 1,500 Years of Ginseng Culture'.206

Finally, by modernly reinterpreting the universal values of 'Filial Piety'207and 'Health'208contained in the 'Gang Cheosa Legend', 'Baekje Ginseng' must be firmly established not just as a food product, but as a 'Global Wellness Brand symbolizing Life and Devotion'.209

The pulse of 1,500 years has already begun to beat again.210
